Why is Long Time No See Queer?
“To be queer is to exist differently, to bump up against these norms, and to reshape or destroy them in moments of friction…” - Not Gay as in Happy: Queer Resistance in Games
In Long Time No See, the players have the option to draw a card from the red pile, or the blue and yellow pile. The red cards queer relationship dynamics by asking hard-hitting questions that are not typically mentioned in day-to-day life. This probes players to release their emotions for further growth in their relationship before playing Long Time No See, while also giving them an option for self-care with the blue/yellow pile. We aimed to push against typical relationship norms and explore the potential to reshape dynamics after this cathartic experience.
